After buying a mat I feel more indebted to the practice of yoga. I am on the hunt for my favorite place to strike a mountain pose, which brought me to the beginner class at InYoga.

Pre Sweat

The studio is located right next to a KFC, making me wonder what the people in the drive thru line think of all the yogis walking by. There is plenty of free, on-site parking in the lot next to the studio. When I walked in, I felt like I was entering a retail store filled with exercise goodies. There was a lot of chatter and I could tell there were a lot of regulars, aren’t there always at a yoga studio? I let her know it was my first time, signed a waiver, put my shoes under the bench, and headed inside. The room was huge and there were cubbies and props to the left so I put away my things and grabbed two blocks, a strap, and a blanket.

 

Sweat

I don’t think this was supposed to be hot yoga but the temperature in the room was definitely up there and I broke a sweat rather quickly. Throughout the class, Hollye encouraged us to play around with each pose and gave modifications and suggestions to increase the difficulty. I appreciated this but, being so new to yoga, I wish she had adjusted my form when necessary. We did many of the usual poses: mountain pose, downward dog, plank, warrior, bridge, triangle, forward bend, and chair, ending in savasana. We didn’t stretch much at the end of class and Hollye also didn’t walk around with the oil that I always look forward to during yoga classes.

Post Sweat

Head 5 blocks south for some Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt or a warm treat from Starbucks. Better yet, swing by the new Joan’s on Third in Studio City to pick up a delicious dinner.
