The studio is located on La Brea, a couple blocks away from the West Hollywood Gateway shopping center. There is a free parking lot behind the building that I was unaware of so I parked easily on a neighborhood side street. When I walked in, the previous class was finishing up. Everyone was chatting and I couldn’t tell who the instructor was. I waited for it to clear out a bit and followed someone else’s lead, taking a seat on a reformer. It wasn’t until someone else approached the instructor who gave her instructions to fill out a form that I knew I was supposed to.
The studio is bright and clean, a perfect place to sweat (fresh towels included). Melody, the instructor, had us each grab a set of hand weights. I chose a pair of 3 pounders, which ended up being perfect. As usual with Pilates classes, we started laying on the reformer, pressing the carriage up and back. However, this class went beyond the basics. As we pressed, we also worked our upper body lifting the hand weights.
Throughout the class, we did a ton of core, booty, and thigh work. Melody didn’t hesitate to make necessary corrections and I really enjoyed the playlist she had going in the background. Club Pilates offers so many different types and levels of classes including Reformer Plus 1.5, 2, and 2.5, Cardio Sculpt, Body Burn Bootcamp, and Barre/Reformer fusion that I can’t wait to try!
Eat: The iconic Hollywood hotdog stand, Pink’s, is steps away if you’re looking for a touristy snack. For an amazing salad or sandwich, definitely check out Mendocino Farms at the West Hollywood Gateway (3 blocks north on Santa Monica and La Brea).
Drink: Head four blocks west on Melrose to grab a fresh smoothie, juice, or acai bowl at Naturewell. Check in on Yelp for a free spicy Facemelter shot.
