To be completely honest, I’ve been coming to this studio for almost a year now and had a few negative experiences at the beginning. I’m not sure if it was because I didn’t feel comfortable on the megaformer, or that the instructors I had were just not super friendly, but I was determined to succeed and kept coming back anyways. After plenty of classes, I am finally writing my (positive) review.
There is a lot behind the studio but I have always easily found free street parking on the other side of Ventura. The studio is one giant room but there are benches for students to wait on. They have a place to fill up water and cups if you forget a bottle. You’ll have to sign a waiver if it’s your first time but they just got a really cool check-in tablet. Make sure you have sticky socks—they are mandatory. A towel also wouldn’t hurt, and sticky gloves if your hands get sweaty (just me?).
We always warm up with a set of KILLER ab work that gets me sweating immediately. It’s a little intimidating when the instructor uses words like “sexy back”, “wheelbarrow”, and “catfish”, but I always just follow along with the rest of the group who seems to know what they’re doing.
Once my core is completely warmed up and my body is heated, we move into legs for about half of the class doing a variety of lunges and squats. After our legs are completely exhausted (the whole idea is to completely fatigue your muscles), we move into oblique and arm work doing side crunches, pull-ups, and bicep curls. We finish off with a few more planks and then class is over! I always leave this studio knowing that I had an amazing workout.
There’s a new poke restaurant next-door if you’re interested in a bowl of deconstructed sushi. I love heading two blocks over to Pressed Juicery for juice, Bellacures for nails, Il Tramezzino for a sandwich, SusieCakes for a treat, or, if I’m lucky, DryBar for an awesome blowout.
