Sometimes there’s nothing better than just chilling out. After a busy weekend, spending time in relaxing stretches was exactly what I needed and it was the perfect excuse to finally check out YogaWorks.

Pre Sweat

The studio is located on the second and third floors of a building on the corner of Fairfax and Santa Monica. There is metered parking, neighborhood parking (watch for signs), and assigned “YogaWorks” spots across Fairfax. I headed into the studio and up the stairs with my mat, finding the front desk to the left. They have a nice little lobby with a boutique and complimentary tea.

Restorative was held in the large, white brick studio on the third floor. The room was large and Sharon instructed us to grab two blankets, two blocks, two bolsters, and a strap.

We started seated before getting into our first pose. Throughout the 85-minute class, we slowly moved between about five poses, holding each for an extended period of time. Sharon would demonstrate each at the front and walk around for people who needed extra assistance.

I loved that none of the poses hurt; instead they were all very calming and I could feel my muscles slowly letting go. The props helped ensure each position was comfortable. We did side twists, assisted child’s pose, savasana with a bolster, and legs up the wall. Sharon would come by and apply light pressure to help ease into the pose, something that I always welcome. I was worried that the class would drag on, but shocked when she said we ended a little late; it flew by!

Once class is over, head to Whole Foods, catty-corner from the studio, for their fresh fruit smoothie bar. Starbucks is across the street and Coffee Commissary (a personal fav) is a few blocks south on Fairfax. If yoga has somehow given you the energy to go out, popular bars Surly Goat, Ysabel, and Lauren Hardware are all nearby.

Tricks of the Trade

  • If you’re interested in a membership, they have a regional option for just $35 more per month ($135) that allows unlimited classes at all of the LA and OC studios. Both package options have a two-month minimum commitment.
