I’m a sucker for a good combo class and I can’t believe it took me this long to try Sweat Garage!

Pre Sweat

I parked on the street but found out later that there is a free underground lot in the building; the entrance is off of Waring Ave. When I checked in and filled out the short waiver, I was informed that towels are mandatory. Since it was my first class, they let me by without the $2 rental fee but I suggest bringing your own if possible. Once the previous class ended, I stashed my purse in the lockers in the front and grabbed a riser.

Sweat

Since there were a bunch of first timers, Wes quickly went over how to work the treadmills before we began. The class was separated into two groups. Half started on the treadmill while the others started with the strength portion. We swapped back and forth four times, doing each rotation for 13 minutes. I started on the floor where we did three exercises, three times each, for one minute each with a 30-second break in between. We did as many reps as possible until time was up. Here’s the breakdown of the exercises for both floor segments (my upper body was super sore the next day):

Floor 1

  • Chest press
  • Rows
  • Chest flys

Floor 2—There were modifications for people who had wrist trouble (ME!), which was very helpful.

  • Push-ups (or squats)
  • Jack knives
  • Heartbeats—while laying on riser, quickly pressing the weights up and down right above your chest (or lunges)

During the first treadmill round, we went from jogging, to running, to sprinting, changing the incline so it felt like we were running up a hill, then slowly coming down. In the second round we did “spirit sprints” where, for the entire 13 minutes, we alternated between sprinting for one minute and cooling down for one minute, always trying to increase our sprint pace by .1.

At the end, we all came together to stretch—I was drenched in sweat!

Post Sweat

Coffee Commissary (super trendy) and Pitfire Pizza are in the same plaza. I’m obsessed with the Burrata Pie and the chocolate chip cookies are to die for. I mean, you just burned a ton of calories at Sweat Garage, right?!

Tricks of the Trade

  • New clients can buy a week unlimited for $25—the price of one class!
  • Bring a water bottle but there’s a place to fill up in the back of the studio.
  • The floor workouts are posted on the whiteboard and the instructor goes over them before each round so you’re never surprised or confused.
